SEEKING INITIAL ACCREDITATION
Educational programs in cardiovascular technology are sponsored by colleges, universities, hospitals, medical centers, and by consortium. Most programs are two years in length and must include an appropriate sequence of classroom, laboratory, and clinical activities.
Programs may offer any of four concentrations:
The Joint Review Committee on Education in Cardiovascular Technology (JRC-CVT) is a Committee on Accreditation member of the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). The JRC-CVT is sponsored by the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Radiology, the American Society of Echocardiography, the Society of Invasive Cardiovascular Professionals, and the Society for Vascular Ultrasound.
The review of programs seeking accreditation is based on the CAAHEP Standards and Guidelines for Cardiovascular Technology Educational Programs.
Programs request accreditation services by filing the CAAHEP Request for Accreditation Services. Programs then demonstrate the degree to which they meet the Standards through a two-part comprehensive evaluation that includes a written Initial-Accreditation Self Study Report (ISSR) and an on-site review. Upon completion of the comprehensive evaluation, the JRC-CVT formulates a status of public recognition recommendation that is forwarded to CAAHEP, which awards the accreditation for Cardiovascular Technology programs that meet the Standards.
